Hubert C. “Hube” Voltz, 90, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 23, 2022, at the Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 11, 1932, in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Hubert J. Voltz and the late Pearl Winters Voltz.
Hube attended Butler High School, then graduated from Penn Twp. High School in 1950, where he was the class Valedictorian, and in 1948-1949 was on the Penn Twp. Basketball Team that were Class A Champions. He began college at Indiana State College and graduated from Slippery Rock State College with a B.S in Mathematics. Hube was the first Knoch Basketball Coach. He was a member and President of South Butler County School District Board. Hube worked as a teacher at Chicora High School, Winfield High School, and Knoch High School. As a professor, he worked at Slippery Rock University and was the Chairman of the Mathematics Department, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he was named Professor Emeritus. Hube was a member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church, where he also served as a deacon, elder, and choir member, until its closing, then became a member of Glade Run Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the Elks Club, Esquire Club, and Dirty Dozen Golf Club. Hube enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, ballroom dancing, and coaching baseball. He was an avid sports fan.
Hube is survived by his daughter, Kristy (Dale) Love of Evans City, PA; four sons, David (Elizabeth) Voltz of Pittsburgh, PA, Richard (Terri) Voltz of Raleigh, NC, Terry (Lori) Voltz of Smithfield, VA, Robert (Jeanne) Voltz of Butler, PA; fifteen grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Voltz, Laura (Bryan) Teschke, Ann (Vincent) Sokalski, Whitney (Christopher) Mark, Steven (Alison) Voltz, Sara (Jason) Lassiter, Megan Voltz, Lauren Voltz, John Voltz, Karlyn Voltz, Victoria Love, Alexandra Love, Bradley Love, Cory Voltz, Aaron Voltz; 13 great-grandchildren, Jack, Jocelyn, and Rowan Teschke, William, Patrick, Matthew, and Kathryn Sokalski, Thatcher and Delphine Voltz, Lucas and Ben Lassiter, Andrew and Owen Mark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet E. Voltz, who he married on July 17, 1952, and who passed away on April 12, 2020; three brothers, Herbert Voltz, John Boyle, and James Boyle; three sisters, Patricia Thompson, Alice Lehnerd, and Jane Voltz.
Friends will be received Thursday, December 29, 2022, 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, 11:00 am at the Glade Run Church, 1091 Pittsburgh Road Valencia, PA, with Rev. Gary Weston, officiating.
The burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.
