Hunters using tree stands will not be required to wear fall restraint devices after the Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners tabled a proposal that would have required the protective measure.
Commissioners did say that they support the use of such devices but the proposal they were considering needs amended to reflect that it only applies to state game lands.
The full-body safety harness and tether system discussed in the proposal would be used from the time a person leaves the ground until the person returns to the ground. Failure to use the device would have resulted in a fine between $100 and $200.
Commissioners plan to direct staff to educate the public about how these harness systems can help prevent a potentially harmful situation.
