A bill that would give a sales tax exemption to certain equipment has advanced through a committee chaired by a local lawmaker.
Republican State Senator Scott Hutchinson and the rest of the Senate Finance Committee recently approved Senate Bill 463 which would waive the tax on equipment used in the construction and operation of computer data centers.
“In order to qualify, the data center must reach certain investment and payroll thresholds within four years,” Hutchinson said. “It would keep Pennsylvania on pace with surrounding states to hopefully entice the location of data centers here in Pennsylvania.”
This bill was discussed during a public hearing last week by the Senate Community Economic and Recreational Development Committee on the economic impact of the state’s technology and energy infrastructure.
Other bills advanced by the committee include Senate Bill 454 which deals with tax credits for volunteer firefighters, Senate Bill 562 which incentivizes development of vacant land and buildings owned by airports, and House Bill 766 which aligns local earned income tax due dates with federal and state tax return due dates.
