A portion of I-79 southbound has reopened after a multi-vehicle crash involving an ambulance Tuesday morning.
It happened around 10 a.m. in the southbound lane near mile marker 83—which is near the Evans City exit ramp.
Dispatchers say four vehicles were involved and that there was at least one person entrapped in a vehicle that was in front of the ambulance.
A medical helicopter was called to the scene as there was reportedly one person who was not breathing when crews arrived.
A total of six people needed to be evaluated by EMS crews according to dispatchers.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. I-79 had to be shut down in between the Route 19 exit and Cranberry Township on-ramp for several hours.
