A new event at Butler County Community College in honor of two alums that passed away at an early age is considered a success after raising thousands for scholarships.
The inaugural Pioneer Pursuit last weekend collected over $16,000 and drew over 200 participants from around the region for a variety of health-related activities—including a 5K, one-mile walk, kids 100 meter dash, and yoga.
The event is in memory of two BC3 nursing graduates Sarah Kasunic and Caitlyn Kaufman. Kasunic was killed in a traffic accident in Tennessee back in 2019. Kaufman meanwhile died in a road rage incident near Nashville in 2020.
Nine BC3 Alumni Legacy Scholarships, including those in memory of Kasunic and Kaufman, are among nearly 150 awarded by the BC3 Education Foundation to BC3 students for the current academic year.
