A project to improve and replace 56 poles and street lights along Main Street in the city of Butler is moving steadily toward completion.
The project includes replacing the existing lights on Main between Wayne and Penn streets with LED lights. According to Councilman Mike Walter, this change is going to make a big difference.
“”Basically what we have right now before these lights were put up, was half the lighting that we should have,” Walter said.
Bronder Technical Services of Prospect has been working on this project since July of last year at a cost of just under $1.3 million with funding secured through the Butler County Infrastructure Bank.
Many of the lights that are coming down will be able to be repurposed to use in areas of the city that are not well lit, according to Mayor Ben Smith.
“There are going to be places in the city such as around the Farmer’s Market and the section past Brady St. all the way up to Penn St. that will now be lit,” Smith said. “It’s an opportunity for us to make places in the city shine differently than they do now.”
