A person of interest has been taken into custody as the investigation into a suspicious death of a woman in Venango County continues.
Trooper Michelle McGee is Community Service Officer and Public Information Officer with the Franklin Barracks of the State Police.
“We have developed a person of interest. There has been a criminal complaint, an arrest warrant. Clayton Hindman has been taken into custody in Missouri. He turned himself in and that, at this point, is our person of interest.”
The investigation started Thursday when police were called to make a welfare check at a home on Hillcrest Avenue in Polk- which is a small town just north of Butler County near Franklin. Police got inside and found a decomposing body in the living room.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the remains but have not ruled out that they may belong to 38-year-old Salina Chilson of Emlenton, who was last seen July 3. Police have focused on Hindman for several reasons.
“We have a couple different reasons for this person and we are just looking into all of those developments at this time, but one of which was, it was his residence.”
Pennsylvania State Police are leading this investigation which will continue once Hindman has an extradition hearing. If he is sent back to Pennsylvania, he would face additional questioning by investigators.
