It is with deep sadness that the family of Irma Hall Caparosa shares the news of her passing on November 21, 2021 at Concordia Lutheran Nursing Home in Cabot, PA at the age of 99 and 7 months.
Born on April 12, 1922, and raised in Wausau, Wisconsin, Irma told great stories of her childhood and the wonders of growing up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin – skiing, ice skating and sledding in the winter and lake holidays in the summer. Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Eleanor Kmen Hall, and her only sibling, Marion Domres.
Upon graduation from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Wausau, Irma enlisted in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. nurse during WWII. It was there that she met her future husband, the late Joseph L. Caparosa, at Camp Kilmer, NJ. They married on October 26, 1946 and in the early fifties settled in Butler to start and raise a family. Irma and Joe (who passed away on September 24, 2012) leave behind their five children: Kyle Caparosa (Joseph O’Hagan) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Wendelline (Michael) Dron of Butler, Joseph W. Caparosa (Hon. Marilyn J. Horan) of Butler, Kevin Caparosa of Butler and Elizabeth (John) Bailey of Lexington, KY; twelve grandchildren: Wallis O’Hagan, Jonathan Dron, Gretchen (David) Crissman, Lydia Caparosa, Joseph H. Caparosa (Anna Tang), Laura and Monica Caparosa, Rachel (Tom) Rodgers, Kristi (Rory) McGinnis, Kayce and Blake Caparosa, Wade Bailey: six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Irma left the practice of nursing to raise her family after working at both the Butler and VA Hospitals. She enjoyed her life as a wife and mother keeping busy with her children’s activities and her own volunteer responsibilities. Irma was a member of Intermediate League, St. Paul’s Catholic Church and numerous bridge and card clubs. In the early 80’s, Irma and Joe began spending much of the winter at their home on Singer Island, FL which they both loved. There they were happiest sitting by the ocean, enjoying the sun and spending time with family and friends.
Friends and family will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler from 3:00 to 6:00 pm Tuesday . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler. The Rev. Kevin Fazio will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Butler Lifesteps Agency, 383 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001 or to Concordia Lutheran Home, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023 for their Patient Activities Department Fund.
