James Benson Hutchinson, 92, of Penn Twp passed away peacefully at home on Saturday,
December 16, 2023
Jim was born in 1931 in Butler, Pennsylvania and was the son of Gordon and Grace Hutchinson.
He graduated from Butler High School in 1949 and was the Senior Class President. He went on to college at Notre Dame University in Notre Dame, IN. and was on the Golf Team all four years. Jim graduated in 1953 and then went on to serve in the US Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. After returning home he owned and operated the Family Business, Hutchinson Cleaners & Dyers.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret (Peggy) Hutchinson who passed away on December 31, 2021.
In 1948, Jim became the youngest Men’s Golf Champion at the Butler Country Club at the age of 17. After 75 years this record still stands. Jim enjoyed golfing and traveling with Peggy to South Bend, IN to attend Notre Dame Football games.
He is survived by 8 children. Jack Hutchinson of Butler PA, Dick (Andrea) Hutchinson of Melbourne Beach FL, Joan (Frank) Ferraro of Butler PA, Dan (Gail) Hutchinson of Eden Prairie MN, Jim Hutchinson Jr of Washington DC, Steve (Lorraine) Hutchinson of Butler PA, Anne (Kelly) Hutchinson of Butler PA, Peggy (Bob) Lang of Baltimore MD, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, 1 infant son, Joseph Hutchinson and 1 grandson, Benjamin Hutchinson.
Jim was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and Cousin who was loved by many and will be missed by many more.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful, caring aides who were with Jim & Peggy over the past 4+ years.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10:00 am, at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, 1304 East Cruikshank Road. The Rev. David Schmidt, will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler. Everyone is asked to please meet at the Church Friday morning for Mass.
