James Edward Bartley, 93 of Middlesex Twp., passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.
Born May 2, 1924 in Harrison City, PA, he was the son of the late James C. Bartley and Hannah Grierson Bartley.
Edward was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed working the land, and was honored for being a century farmer. He was the owner and operator of Bartley Trucking and Lime Spreading. For many years, he exhibited animals at local fairs and the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg. He owned Bartley Concession. which served up farm fresh hot sausage and funnel cakes at the fairs. In his time, he was a mail carrier, bus driver, and mechanic.
Edward enjoyed racing harness horses and driving them at the fairs, collecting antique tractors and taking rides to Tionesta in his antique cars. He was an avid hunter – making several trips to Wyoming. Edward enjoyed being on the river and riding the Gateway Clipper with his family and friends. He was a member of the Middlesex PCA Church and a charter member of the Butler County Mounted Sheriff Posse. He served on the Parks and Recreation Committee of Middlesex Twp., and was a former Mason and Syria Shiner.
Edward is survived by a daughter, June (Ronald) Arner of Middlesex; a grandson Joshua (Mary) Arner of Forest Hills, a granddaughter Stacy Arner of Kennesaw, Georgia, a brother Homer Bartley of Lexington, Kentucky, two sisters, Martha (James) Weber of Jefferson Center and Hannah (John) Barber of Alpharetta, Georgia, a niece and several nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Elsie (Albert) Bartley and a sister, Grace (William) Miller.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 410 W. Main Street, Saxonburg, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Kevin Bowen.
Interment will follow in Summit UP Church Cemetery.
