James M. Mitnik, age 73, of Butler, passed away at his residence on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023.
Born March 5, 1950, in Johnstown, Pa., he was a son of the late John and Jennie Mae Fisher Mitnik.
Jim was employed as a field engineer for Verizon. He previously served as a police officer for Conemaugh Township and East Taylor Township, Cambria County, from 1972 – 1986.
A man of many interests, Jim was a ham radio operator (KK3H); a pilot who obtained his private pilot’s license in 1973; and an automotive enthusiast who especially enjoyed driving his 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner and riding his Harley.
He is survived by his wife, Susan D. Ribblett Mitnik, whom he married June 3, 1972; one son, Seth (Jaime) Mitnik; two sisters, Mimi Pawlus, of New York, and Peggy Reese, of Florida; and one sister-in-law, Linda Mitnik, of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Mitnik and Terry Mitnik, and in-laws James and Dolores Williams Ribblett.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Services will be private, and private entombment will take place in Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Johnstown.
