James W. Snyder, age 83, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 in the Butler, Pennsylvania Veterans Hospital. He was born in Glenshaw, PA, Sunday, September 12, 1937 to the late Harry and Eloise (Devitt) Snyder.
He was a 1955 graduate of Shaler High School, then honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. He retired from Duquesne Light Company after 36 years. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in North Oakland, Chicora, PA. He enjoyed sports and followed the Pittsburgh Panthers throughout the years.
His life was fulfilled when he married the love of his life, Helen, on June 21, 1968. Together they actualized their dream of starting a farm, Snyder’s Farm, which they owned and operated in North Oakland, Chicora, PA raising beef cattle and berries until Helen’s death in June 22, 2018.
James is survived by friends and caretakers: Derek and Diane Headland.
Friends will be received Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 6-8 at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock Street, Chicora, Pennsylvania
A mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 11:30 A.M. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in North Oakland, Chicora, PA. officiated by Father Matt McClain.
Jim will be laid to rest beside his wife in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in North Oakland, Chicora, PA.
Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Chicora and Brady’s Bend American Legion.
