Jane Carol (Young) Hogue Russell, age 89, of Prospect, passed away Friday morning, January 1, 2021 in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born September 14, 1931 in Swissvale, Allegheny County; she was the daughter of the late George B. and Clara Scheuring Young.
A 1949 Butler High School Graduate.
She was a faithful member of the Community Alliance Church in Butler, where she enjoyed singing, talking with people, and working in the kitchen, especially at the annual Men’s Venison Dinners.
Jane was a Cook and Cafeteria Manager at the former Franklin Twp. Elementary School and then retired from the new Moraine Elementary School after working thirty plus years in the Slippery Rock Area School District. Also, she was a cook at the State Police Troop D Camp Cadet and was a substitute rural mail carrier for the Prospect Post Office.
She enjoyed many friendships and going to Keenagers, the Senior Group in Portersville. Jane enjoyed reading and singing. She had a beautiful voice and sang at many weddings through the years. She also belonged to several singing groups, including Church Choirs, Community Choirs, “The Ladies Trio”, and “The Southernaires”.
Always one for an adventure, in her younger years she enjoyed traveling, camping, canoeing, and riding bikes. She will be remembered for racing a car in the powder puff derby at the former Butler Speedway and riding a dirt bike.
She is survived by her children Dennis J Hogue of Butler, Joyce C. (Charles) Davies of Prospect, Dana J Hogue of Butler; daughter in law Dixie Hogue of Slippery Rock; grandchildren Danielle (Tim) Busi of Slippery Rock and TJ Hogue of New York; step-children Stephen (Carol) Russell of Butler, Elizabeth (Doug) Blow of Downingtown, Pa, Carol (Brian) O’Donnell of Central Asia; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Donald J Hogue, who she married in 1949 and he passed away March 25, 1997; her second husband Arthur Russell, who she married in 2005 and he passed away July 4, 2016; son Donn Jeffrey Hogue, who passed away December 17, 2019; grandson Charles Davies, III, who passed away February 22, 2019; and her brother George Young, who passed away in 1970.
Private funeral services have been entrusted to the Raisley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 387 Main Street, Prospect. A private service and interment will take place, where she will be laid to rest on her family plot in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
