Jean Zarnick passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 after a lengthy fight with Alzheimer’s. Born Erma Jean Miller on September 10, 1936 on a dairy farm in Somerset PA was one of 10 children to parents Ida (Knepper) and Milton Miller. She graduated from Somerset High School in 1955. She attended nursing school at Butler Memorial Hospital and became a registered nurse. This is where she met the love of her life, Tom Zarnick. They were married Jan 30th 1960. Tom and Jean had three sons Tom Jr, Jeff, and Steve. Tom and Jean were members of St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in Butler where Tom sang in the choir and Jean was active in the making of Rosary’s, Rosary readings and Funeral Luncheons.
Jean worked at the Butler Memorial Hospital for 35 years in the Labor and Delivery room and Nursery. She loved being a nurse and helped many family and friends while delivering their babies. She was a great wife, mother, avid gardener and excellent cook and baker. She was a member of the Hooch gang, Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni and Red Hatters.
Tom and Jean traveled extensively in their retirement years and really enjoyed being snowbirds in Tucson AZ every winter. There they enjoyed hiking the Catalina Mountains amongst the beautiful Saguaro cacti and sitting by the pool, playing cards and golfing with their snowbird friends from across the country.
Jean is survived by her husband Tom of 61 years, sons Tom Jr (Debbie) of Cranberry Twp PA, Jeff (Johanne) of New Market MD, and Steve (Susan) of Seattle WA and 5 grandchildren, Tommy III, Court, Lindsey, Ethan, and Konrad.
Family will receive friends from 10-11:30 am on Monday, March 1 at Geibel Funeral Home 201 East Cunningham Street Butler, PA 16001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 12:00pm at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church 127 Franklin St. Butler, PA 16001. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
