Jessie Fowler Leonard, of Bethany Retirement Village, Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Butler, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 101 years of age.
She was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School in Ohio, and attended Maryville College in Tennessee. Jessie received a BS in Nursing from Cornell University New York Hospital and a Masters Degree in Education. She was a Visiting Nurse in New York City, worked at Butler Memorial Hospital and retired as Butler Intermediate High School Nurse. Jessie is listed on the Women’s War Memorial in Washington, D.C. for her service in World War II. She was honored by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate when she reached the age of 100.
Jessie was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and PSEA School Nurse Section. She was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America in Butler.
Surviving are John E. Leonard, Jr. (Ted), and wife Veronica, David Leonard and wife Jayme, James Leonard and daughter Cathy Getch. Also, six grandsons, two granddaughters, one nephew, fourteen nieces, and several great nieces and nephews.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Leonard, who died in 2004, and one son, Keith.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 11-1 at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dwight Dunn of Westminster Church (PCA) officiating.
She will be laid to rest in North Side Cemetery.
