Jimmie V. Keys, 88, of Mars PA, formerly of Butler PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 23, 2021, in Seven Fields, PA.
Born December 28, 1932, in Fredericktown, PA to the late William and Harriet (Beglin) Keys; husband of the late Elizabeth M. Keys and Father of the late Kelly M. Keys.
He is survived by his children Kirk (Amy) Keys of Butler, Jamie (Mike) Parisi of Morehead City, NC, Kristen (Lenny) Haney of Leonardtown, MD, and Drew (Tracy) Keys of Mars, PA, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his brothers, William (Edith), and Clifford (Emma) Keys, and sister, Wilma Jean Post (Harry).
After discharge from the US Army where he served during the Korean War, he moved to Butler PA with his parents and worked as a bus driver for a short time before employment at Armco Steel (“the Mill”) where he worked for over 40 years. He served as a representative of the Butler Armco Independent Union and served as president of the Butler County Historical Society playing a central role in the establishment of the Cooper Cabin Pioneer Homestead in Cabot, PA. Always eager to make a new friend, Jimmie displayed his charisma and sense of humor to all, often striking up conversations with strangers he encountered during his daily routine. His commitment to his children and grandchildren was a focus in his life and he relished family get togethers.
Friends and family will be received at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler PA, with visitation, Sunday, October 31, from 2PM to 5PM and Monday, November 1, from 10AM to 11AM followed by a memorial service at the funeral home and internment at Calvary Cemetery, Main St, Butler PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Butler County Historical Society (Butlerhistory.com) or the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Rd, Renfrew, PA 16053 (Butlercountyhs.org).
