John A. Cegalis, 82, of Butler, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 1, 1942, in Bellevue, Pa., he was the son of the late Anthony S. and Elizabeth B. Martin Cegalis.
John graduated from Duquesne University, where he played on the men’s basketball team.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam Era.
John held supervisory positions at a number of manufacturing companies during his professional career.
John was a member of AA, with more than 40 years’ continuous sobriety.
He is survived by his wife, Joan M. Wensconis, whom he married Dec. 10, 2019; one adopted son, Sean Cegalis; and one nephew, Brennan Yarnot.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Yarnot, and her husband, Bernard F. Yarnot.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Monday from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
A Blessing Service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778, and VFW Post 499.
Burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
