John E. Hartle, 76, of Butler passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023. He was born in Butler on November 11, 1946 to the late Leonard and Margaret (McGowan) Hartle. John graduated from Slippery Rock High School. He then joined the USMC and went to Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, John worked in the coal mines. He then went on to work as a union carpenter for J.J. Morris Construction until his retirement. Not only was John known for being a hard worker, but he was also known to be caring, giving, and helpful. He demonstrated these qualities throughout his 20+ years in AA, where he selflessly helped hundreds along the way. John enjoyed kayaking, scuba diving, golf, playing craps at the casino, and travelling to places like Australia & Hawaii. John is survived by his former wife & caregiver, Linda (McGrady) Hartle, his stepson Travis (Maria) Fisher, his brothers William “Bill” (Donna) Hartle & Ron (Tammy) Hartle, his sister-in-law Stella “Cook” Hartle, and his step grandchildren Liam & Tighe Fisher. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard “Butch” Hartle & his sister Margaret “Peg” Quinn.
