John Lawrence “Larry” McKernan, 78, of Cabot passed away at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2025. He was born on December 19, 1946. Larry was the beloved husband of Olga F. McKernan for nearly 55 years. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and shared memories. He was a devoted father to Molly (Timothy), Kevin (Jennifer), and John (Megan). His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren—Gabe (Maria), Keavy, Gracie, J.T., Eion, and Owen—and his great-grandchild, Aurora.
He is survived by his loving wife Olga, his children and grandchildren, and his sisters—Mary, Adlinda, Karen, and Grace—affectionately known as “The Sisters.” He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished his presence in their lives.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James B. McKernan Jr. and Mary Sally (McDonald), as well as his brothers Sloan McKernan and James B. McKernan III.
A proud U.S. Army veteran and a retired member of the Boilermakers Union Local #154, John was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Fondly called “Mr. Fix It,” he could repair anything from cars to toys with ease and ingenuity. His storytelling skills were legendary among his grandchildren, especially during their adventures with “Pap” at the wheel of the family bus. Larry’s warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by those who knew him best. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
