Joseph A. Campbell, age 79, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Advanced Care Center, Butler. He was surrounded by his children.
Born September 16, 1943, in Butler, he was a son of the late John and Helen (Beck) Campbell. He graduated from Butler Area High School in 1961. He also graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Education.
In his 35 years as a teacher in the Butler Area School District, he influenced many lives before retiring in 2001. He taught fifth and sixth grade at Clearfield Elementary School. Before that, he taught two years at St. Peter Catholic School in Butler. After retirement he spent many hours volunteering at Broad Street School and Emily Brittain School, where his daughters taught.
He was a volunteer at the Butler Memorial Hospital. He also was employed at R. W. McDonald and Sons many years ago.
Joseph was a devout Catholic and was a member of All Saints Parish, Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church.
He married the love of his life, Donna J. (Broerman) Campbell, on April 29, 1967. They enjoyed spending time together, especially traveling and going on cruises. They rarely spent any time apart in their nearly 55 years of marriage. They are reunited once again in heaven.
He is survived by his three children; Karen M. Baker and her husband, Will, of Wexford, Kenneth J. Campbell and his wife, Lynn, of Butler, and Kristi A. Huff and her husband, Mike, of Butler; seven grandchildren; Nathan, Kaitlyn, Owen, Brady, Molly, Joey and Gracie; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Campbell, and his wife Patti, of Butler. They visited him on a weekly basis. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Campbell, and his wife, Kathy, of Florida.
In addition to his wife, Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Campbell; and a sister, Mary Ann Campbell.
Joseph loved his family wholeheartedly. He was very kind, easy going, patient, and had a great sense of humor. Anyone who knew him, loved him.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Advanced Care Center and VNA Hospice for their unconditional comfort and compassion for Joseph and his family.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler, on Thursday, June 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. from All Saints Parish, Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin Street, Butler.
Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
