Joseph Andrew Jesteadt, age 90, of Prospect, passed away early Saturday morning, June 23, 2018, at his residence.
Born August 24, 1927 in West View, Allegheny County, he was the son of the late Joseph Killian and Edith Antonet Burger Jesteadt.
He was a member of the St Christopher At The Lake Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.
He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed playing in the dirt and riding on tractors.
Joe was a former member of the Butler Farmer’s Market, where his friends encouraged him to grow vegetable plants and flowers to sell. He then opened Jesteadt’s Greenhouse in the late 1950’s on Grindel Road in Prospect. As his family took over the business, you would still see his working hands and friendly smile in the greenhouse right up until the last day.
He is survived by his loving children Kenneth (Paula)Jesteadt of Prospect, Carol (Thomas) Hunsberger of Greencastle, PA, Gerald (Kathy) Jesteadt of East Brady, Ronald (Brenda) Jesteadt of Wexford, Cheryl (Toby) Vollnogle of Prospect, Jack (Beth) Jesteadt of Colorado, Thomas Jesteadt of Prospect, Chris (Bruce) Shaffer of Prospect, Diane (Jeff) Pritts of Prospect, 26 Grandchildren, and 23 Great Grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rose Grindel Jesteadt, whom he married August 28, 1948 and passed away March 23, 2017, his grandson Kevin Jesteadt, four brothers, and one sister.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Edward L Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect.
Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, 10:30am at St Christopher at the lake Roman Catholic Church, Prospect, with Father Joseph Feltz, officiating.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
