Joseph C. Tomsey Sr. 99, of Butler passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023. He was born in Butler on February 17, 1924 to the late Joseph and Mary (Megova) Tomsey. Joe served his country honorably and received a Purple Heart during WW2 in the U.S. Army, 63rd Infantry Division. He worked at Agway for numerous decades until his retirement. During this time, he was a member of the East Butler Fire Department and the Herman Volunteer Fire Department. Joe enjoyed to work outside and especially in his beautiful garden, but he loved nothing more than being with his family and friends. He was loved, respected, and will be forever missed. Joe was the beloved husband of Joan (Steighner) Tomsey since their marriage in 1953; father of Joseph C. (Peggy) Tomsey Jr, Judith (Joe) Mohan, Jim (Karen Powers) Tomsey, and Janice (Tony) Mercatell); brother of Agnes Tomsey. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 5-7 PM in the SPENCER D. Church of Herman. Full Military Honors will follow the Mass. Burial will be held privately.
