Joyce Darlene Cornman, 74, of East Brady, formerly of Karns City, went to be with the Lord Friday morning, October 28, 2022 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law with her loving family at her side.
Joyce Darlene was born at home in Karns City on June 22, 1948. She was the daughter of the late Clarence A. “Bus” and Lillian A. “Lily” Steele Plunkard.
She was a 1966 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and had been employed at Ames Department Store in Butler for more than 30 years. Darlene retired from the housekeeping department at Butler Memorial Hospital. Darlene attended the Church of God in Karns City. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, reading, and the company of her family, especially her two grandsons.
Darlene is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Chester L. “Butch” Cornman, whom she married at the Church of God of Prophecy in Karns City on November 18, 1972. Also surviving is a daughter, Lindsey A. Cookson and her husband, Dan, of East Brady; she was affectionately “Grammy” to her grandsons, Wyatt and Liam, who were the loves of her life; a brother-in-law, David Hutchison of Butler; a sister-in-law, Ella Plunkard of Karns City; her nephews, David Hutchison and his wife, Amy, of Portersville and Jamie Plunkard and his wife, Lea, of Karns City; her nieces, Kristin Hutchison Fuchs and her husband, Bob, of Butler, Karyn Hutchison Barrett and her husband, Sam, of Shelocta, and Cari Plunkard Fennell of Chicora, as well as a number of cousins, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Hutchison and a brother, Clarence “Bud” Plunkard Jr.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Thomas Kelley, her church pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Cemetery, Kepple’s Corners.
