Joyce Wigton, 86, of Butler passed away Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunnyview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on January 13, 2019.
She was born on October 31, 1932 in New Castle, PA to the late Hugh Smith and Jesselyn Smith.
Mrs. Wigton was a member of the North Main Street Church of God. She was a graduate of Butler High School Class of 1951. She was an active member of the reunion committee for more than 50 years.
She was past president of the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler. Joyce loved music and was a very good dancer. She loved dogs, especially German Shepherds. Joyce enjoyed having family picnics. The family bought a cottage on the Allegheny River in Warren County in 1980 and spent a lot of time there.
Joyce was inducted in the PA Voter Hall of Fame for having voted consecutively at every November election for the last 50 years in 2011.
Joyce was the store cashier at Sears for 30 years.
Joyce is survived by her husband, James Wigton and two sons- Richard of Mechanicsburg, PA and Timothy of Butler, PA. two grandchildren, Timothy Jr. and Nicole and a great grandchild Kaylee.
In addition, to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bette McAnany and two brothers – Stan Hugh Smith and Bill Archibald Smith.
Friends will be received Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc,. 124 East North Street, Butler, PA 16001.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Gordon Powell, officiating.
Private burial will be held at Butler County Memorial Park.
