A television host and author will be in Butler County on Thursday to receive a special honor.
Judge Jeanine Pirro will receive the Hance Award at the annual St. Barnabas Founder’s Day Celebration.
Jeanine Pirro currently hosts “Justice with Judge Jeanine” and also serves as a legal analyst on the FOX News Channel. Judge Pirro’s legal career spans over 30 years. In 1975, she became an assistant district attorney for Westchester County, New York and was the first female to prosecute murder cases there. In 1990, Pirro was elected as the first woman to serve as a Westchester County Court judge.
In addition, Pirro started the first domestic violence unit in a prosecutor’s office in the country. In 1997, she was appointed by then-Governor George Pataki to chair the New York State Commission on Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board, whose research helped pass increased protection for domestic violence victims. The Republican Party chose her as its candidate for New York State Attorney General in 2006.
The event Thursday is a big annual fundraiser for St. Barnabas Health System and its Free Care Fund, which provides more than $7 million each year to needy patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who can not afford their care.
The fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Marriot North in Cranberry Township.
