Today officially kicks off the travel period of the long holiday weekend.
Travel experts are also expecting this to be the busiest day on the road. AAA says that the worst travel hours are in between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. today.
Drivers will most likely find easier travel times after 6 p.m. this evening.
In the Mid-Atlantic region, an estimated 5.5 million will be making a trip longer than 50 miles from home.
Another 656,000 will be flying in the Mid-Atlantic—that’s up 12 percent compared to last year.
