The Karns City School District is joining a lawsuit against social media companies.
The district’s board voted to join a federal lawsuit earlier this week. It was initially filed by Pittsburgh Public Schools earlier this month. In the suit, the school claims the companies targeted youth to “compulsively use their services” to maximize profits while causing harm to their mental health.
The suit targets social media companies like Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and more.
Karns City officials say that while damages are being sought, school officials say the suit is more about vigilance. They add that social media can disrupt the learning environment and cause problems when it comes to bullying.
