Kathryn Grelling, 75, of Butler passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital, leaving a void her family and friends cannot fill. She was born in Butler on January 18, 1949, to the late Arthur and E. Jean (Oesterling) Grelling. Kathryn graduated from Butler Area High School in 1966. She was a “Kathryn” of all trades. Her willingness to go anywhere and try anything meant that she not only held countless jobs in her life, but also created a life rich with experience, skill, and wisdom. Her final career as a caregiver truly allowed her to shine in all her greatest strengths. She loved her people and took great care of them, as though they were her own family. Kathryn was brilliant, witty, and lived her life fiercely. She exhibited a thirst for knowledge and had a natural curiosity. She was a nature – lover and at any given time you could find her hunting for fossils and rocks to add to her collection or foraging for wild mushrooms, even if it meant trespassing on private property. She enjoyed sudoku and was an avid crossword puzzler. Kathyrn had a Hosta Garden that many coveted. She appreciated catching up with friends and family and would spend hours a day on the phone with them, often hanging up the phone and immediately calling the next person. There was never anyone more enjoyable to talk to, even about nothing. She had an energy that anyone would say was hard to ignore and was truly one of a kind. Kathyrn is survived by her three sisters, Marjorie (Frank) Ashley, Pat Grelling, and Lois (Dan) Plaisted; two nieces, Debbie Benoit and Danielle (John) Rihel; and two nephews, Jeffery Ashley and Jeremy (Melissa) Plaisted and seven great – nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Joseph Melnyk. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 6 – 7:30 PM at the SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 NEW CASTLE RD. BUTLER, PA 16001. WWW.SPENCERDGEIBEL.COM. A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home.
