Kay C. McLafferty, 79, of Butler, passed away on Saturday morning, May 25, 2024, surrounded by family.
She was born June 8, 1944, in Butler, a daughter of the late Gerald Fleeger and Violet (Webb) Fleeger.
Kay received a degree in education from Clarion University and worked for the Butler Area School District at Clearfield Elementary School. She retired in June of 1978 to care for her family.
Kay was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, and the Butler Teacher’s Union. She was a talented artist who expressed herself through oil, acrylics, and watercolors. Kay’s creative spirit extended to writing poetry and children’s stories. She found solace in her garden, music, and fishing and had a deep love for animals.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Robert C. McLafferty, whom she married in March 1977. She leaves behind her cherished children: Jason B. (Dania) McLafferty of Canton, OH; Erin K. (Thomas) Duvall of Harmony; and Ryan P. McLafferty of Butler.
She is also survived by her brothers Dale Fleeger of Ft. Worth, TX, Dennis (Regina) Fleeger of Butler, and sister Joyce (Rick) Eckman of Cambridge, VT, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Mineo.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Advanced Care Center in Butler for their attentive and compassionate care.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street in Butler, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road in Meridian. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.
