Kay Joan “Jo” Filges, 85, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 17, 2021, at her residence.
She was born October 7, 1936, in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Clayton Otis Shields and the late Lena Gertrude Snyder Shields.
Jo was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She worked as a florist for Weingartners. Jo enjoyed knitting, bowling, floral designing, country music, and family get-togethers. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jo is survived by her son, Jim Filges and his wife, Beverly of Chicora, PA; two daughters, Darlene Callihan and her husband, Matthew of Butler, PA, Mary Beth Martsolf and her husband, Scott of Butler, PA; four grandchildren, Jessica Stack and her husband, Ryan, Michael Graham and his wife, Cortney, Allison Mortimer and her husband, Michael, and Daniel Filges and his wife, Carlee; four great-grandchildren, Nolan Graham, Lena Mortimer, Josephine Mortimer, and Caleb Graham; one sister, Lena Gertrude Sarvey and her husband Earl of Butler, PA; brother-in-law, Walter Sarvey of Butler, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude DeWayne “Pete” Filges, who she married on December 23, 1957, and who passed away on September 28, 2012; and also four brothers, and four sisters.
Friends will be received Friday, October 22, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. David M. Phillips, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Gruenwald Cemetery.
