Kenneth R. Cypher, 91, of Butler, PA, passed away peacefully at Concordia in Cabot and went to be with his Lord, on July 3, 2023.
Born in Butler on July 15, 1931, to the late C. Russell and Clara (Maharg) Cypher. Ken graduated from Butler High School in 1949 and Grove City College in 1953. He served 4 years in the Navy as a helicopter pilot. Ken returned to Butler to work for his father’s construction company, Miller Dumbaugh and Cypher, for a few years before accepting a position as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds for the Butler Area School District until his retirement. Ken was a member of Calvary U.P. Church, then later Community Alliance Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Elder and Governing Board member. Ken gave his heart to Jesus at Seneca Hills Bible Camp in his youth and served on its board for over 60 years, volunteering many hours on projects at the camp. Ken owned and operated Cypher’s Christmas Tree Farm that his father began and is now operated by his son, Randy. Ken always enjoyed a good project and working hard. He made everything fun, having weeding “parties”, bean picking “parties” and tree trimming “parties”. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, loving his family well. “Well done good and faithful servant.”
He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia “Ginger” (Lewis) Cypher, whom he married on July 6, 1954; his children, Randy (Connie) Cypher of Butler, PA, Ronn (Sue) Cypher of Libertyville, IL, Lori (Bruce) Wilson of Butler, PA, Larry (Cathy) Cypher of Fairport, NY, Lee (Kay) Cypher of Hershey, PA and LeAnne Graham of Des Plaines, IL; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; His brother James (Helen) Cypher of Oakland, CA, his sister-in-law Evelyn Cypher of Butler, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Cypher.
Family and friends of Kenneth R. Cypher, who died Monday, July 3, 2023, will be received from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2023, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, PA with Rev. Dr. Dennis Krajacic officiating. Ken will be laid to rest at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.
