Thursday High School Sports:
–Another WPIAL tennis title for Knoch high school as Ally Bauer and Libby Conlon won the 2A Doubles championship. The duo defeated Kasey and Paige Storkel of Greensburg Salem 6-2, 7-5 to win the first double title for Knoch high school. Laura Greb won the WPIAL Singles title in September, making Knoch the third school in WPIAL history since tennis split into two classifications to share both a singles and doubles title.
Boys Soccer:
–Allderdice defeated Butler 1-0 in overtime.
–Pine-Richland defeated Seneca Valley 2-1.
–North Allegheny and Fox Chapel tied at 3-3 in overtime.
–Mars-11 Armstrong-0. Austin Rocke scored four goals for the Planets and Steven Papik added a hat trick.
–Kiski Area-4 Knoch-1.
–Freeport and Shady Side Academy played to a scoreless double overtime tie. Freeport’s Luke Heider stopped 13 shots in net – including a penalty shot. The Yellow Jackets are 9-4-2 overall. 7-3-2 in section play.
–Freedom-3 North Catholic-2.
Girls Soccer:
–Freeport-7 Indiana-0. Sidney Shemanski led the Yellow Jackets with a hat trick, who improved to 10-2.
Girls Volleyball:
–Butler-3 North Hills-2.
–Mars-3 Ambridge-1.
–North Catholic-3 Our Lady of Sacred Heart-0.
–Freeport-3 Valley-0.
–Gateway-9 Knoch-1.
The Freeport hockey team fell 8-4 to Indiana.
The Butler Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation is hosting the annual Tuff Tornado Run Saturday at Alameda Park.This is a fun 2-mile run with more than 18 obstacles for all ages. The event runs from 1 to 4pm and benefits the Kids Weekend Backpack Program and Creative Teaching Grants, Technology and other supportive scholastic projects within the Butler Area School District.
