PIAA Tennis Championships:
–The Knoch Girls Tennis team finished as the state runner-up this year after falling 3-0 to Sewickley Academy in the PIAA 2A championship match Saturday. The Knights defeated Moravian Academy in the quarterfinals Friday night, then defeated Lancaster Catholic 4-1 in the semifinals earlier in the day Saturday.
WPIAL Playoffs:
Boys 4A Soccer:
–The Seneca Valley boys, who were the defending 4A champions, were eliminated by Mt. Lebanon 2-1 Saturday. The Raiders finished their season 14-4-1.
Girls Soccer:
–The undefeated Mars Girls (16-0-1) will face Belle Vernon (16-3) at Canon-McMillan high school in the 3A semifinals at 8pm. –Plum and West Allegheny meet in the other 3A semifinal at Mars high school at 8pm.
–Freeport (16-4) and Yough (16-1-1) will play in the 2A semifinals at Mars high school at 6pm.
–North Catholic (12-4) will face South Park (13-3-1) in the other 2A semifinal match at Moon high school at 6pm.
–The Seneca Valley Girls (13-3-2) will meet Norwin (17-1) tonight in the 4A semifinals. The match begins at 8pm at North Allegheny high school.
–North Allegheny (15-2-1) will face Peters Township (17-1-1) in the other semifinal at Moon high school at 8pm.
Girls Volleyball quarterfinals:
4A:
–North Allegheny will host Seneca Valley at 7:30pm.
–Pine-Richland will host Oakland Catholic at 7:30pm.
3A:
–Knoch will meet West Allegheny at North Allegheny high school at 6pm.
–Franklin Regional and Armstrong will meet at Pine-Richland high school at 6pm.
2A:
–Freeport will face Hopewell at North Hills high school Tuesday at 7:30pm.
–North Catholic will meet Ellwood City at North Allegheny high school Tuesday at 7:30pm.
The WPIAL Football playoffs will begin Friday. Pairings and seedings will be announced tonight.
–Quite an upset Friday when Pine-Richland pounded previously unbeaten North Allegheny, which gave the Quad County Conference title to Central Catholic. North Allegheny dropped to third, with Pine-Richland finishing second in the conference. Seneca Valley finished fifth to make the 6A playoffs.
–Mars finished fourth in the Northern Conference and make the 5A playoffs.
–North Catholic won the 3A Big East Conference.
