Department of Labor leaders say they are continuing to take steps to combat unemployment fraud.
Labor and Industry Secretary Jennifer Berrier says there has been no breach or hack with the state’s new unemployment compensation system.
“As with other states, fraudsters are filing claims using stolen identity information. These stolen identities have occurred due to data breaches and hacks outside of state governments,” Berrier said.
She added that the new unemployment system flags fraud attempts, and that has prevented over $1 billion in payments to fraudsters.
Berrier did not reveal how many people have been subject to fraud since the new system went live in early June.
