Larry E. Dickey of Butler passed away at Butler Memorial Hospital on March 29, 2024. He was born on September 6, 1948 to John H. Dickey and Virginia (Heginbotham) Dickey. Larry graduated from Butler Area High School in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968, serving in the field of electronics communication until his honorable discharge as an A4 Airman in 1972. After his military service Larry worked at Wetterau Corporation, Penn United and in other positions until his retirement. He attended Whitestown Road Baptist Church and was a member of American Legion Post 117. Larry was known to his many friends as “Pickle” and well known in the community as a working musician, having been the somewhat legendary bassist for the Jentz and for many years with the Vince’s Piano Trio. His love for music was a joyful passion for him springing from an innate talent seen also in his father and older brother, the late Bruce Dickey, and now his son Jon (Jaimie) Dickey, to whom he was a devoted and proud father. Larry also shared much of his life with his previous wife, the late Dorothy (Rogers) Dickey and his stepchildren; Shelly Hart, Patrick Rogers, and the late Sean Rogers. Also surviving are his grandchildren Avalyn and Annaston and step grandchildren, a sister Sharon Noullet. There are many nieces and nephews who have sweet memories of their “Uncle Pickle”. Services were held privately through the SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 NEW CASTLE RD. BUTLER, PA 16001. WWW.SPENCERDGEIBEL.COM. A celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
