The U.S. Census Bureau released new population estimates on Wednesday which showed Butler County is growing slightly.
It wasn’t by much- but new census data suggests Butler County grew between July 2017 and July 2018 by about 880 people. That’s due- according to data- to migration…new people moving into the county.
Since the last official census in 2010, Butler County grew by about 4,000 people- or just over two percent. As of July 1, 2018, Butler was estimated to be home to just under 188,000 people.
When you look at the state as a whole, Butler was the only county in the western half to tout an increase, according to estimates released this week. Most of the growth is happening in the southeastern part of the state. Cumberland County- which is south of State College- is the fasted growing county in the state.
Some counties in our next of the woods- like Westmoreland, Fayette and Erie, had some of the highest population decreases since 2010. And between 2017 and 2018, it’s estimated about 2,200 people moved out of Allegheny County in one year.
We now have less than a year to go before the official 2020 Census.
