Laverne E. “Vern” McMillin, Jr., 72, of Slippery Rock, PA passed away on July 9, 2024, after a brief illness.
He was born on July 2, 1952, to the late Laverne McMillin, Sr. and Margaret (Carson) McMillin.
Vern joined the Army from a young age to serve our country and gave over 26 years of service. He was a Huey Helicopter Crew Chief for the Army National Guard. He later worked at the Butler VA for over 30 years and enjoyed his job in Transporation. Vern was a member of the American Legion Post #778. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. Vern was known for loving all dogs, rescuing dogs in need of homes. Above all, Vern loved spending time with his family and grandkids.
Vern is survived by his wife, Denise (Chatham) McMillin, whom he married on August 5, 2002, two daughters: Nicole (David) Villella and Colby McMillin, two step-daughters: Jennifer (David) Miller and Renee (Chad) Neigh, three grandchildren; Derek Villella, Ava Villella, and Brice Villella, four step-grandchildren; Dominic Rock, Kynlee Neigh, Reid Miller, and Brooks Miller, and his beloved dog Max, and two siblings: Larry McMillin and Susan (Tim) Johnston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Patricia Brandt and one brother: Richard McMillin.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North Street, Butler, PA 16001.
A Military Service will immediately follow on Sunday July 14, 2024, at 1:00 P.M.
A Private Burial will be held at Greenlawn Burial Estates & Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a Veterans Organization or a charity of choice.
