A state representative just south of Butler County is proposing that the $12 billion surplus in Pennsylvania goes back to tax payers.
State Representative Rob Mercuri has proposed a bill that would send up to $1,000 back to each Pennsylvania tax payer.
Mercuri says that special interest groups and elected officials are “eyeing that reserve, totaling more than $12 billion, as a means to fund their additional spending.”
His proposal would establish a one-time taxpayer dividend to taxpayers that filed their 2023 personal income tax.
The proposal will now move to committee.
