State officials are working on a way to make it easier for residents to get unclaimed property back in their hands.
State Treasurer Stacy Garrity says there is $4 billion in unclaimed property across the state. She says the treasury department is proposing a new system called Money Match.
“Senator John DeSantos legislation will give treasury the ability to return simple, single owner claims automatically after a thorough identification process,” Garrity said. “There is no searching for property or filling out forms. Money Match will work for properties that are worth up to $5,000 for just one person.”
Garrity says unclaimed property is a forgotten financial asset; it can range from checking and saving accounts to stocks and bonds.
