Some Pennsylvania lawmakers are promoting legislation that would use federal money to assist agencies that have faced challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Law Enforcement Recovery Grant would allocate $100 million in federal funding for police departments, sheriff offices, and State Police to fund strategies and incentives to attract new recruits and retain current officers.
Pennsylvania Senate Republicans Doug Mastriano and Devlin Robinson announced the legislation at a press conference last week that also included several members of law enforcement.
If approved, the Commission on Crime and Delinquency would administer the program and determine which agencies would be awarded money to invest in technology, improve equipment, or eliminate evidence testing backlogs.
