The deadline is fast approaching for families in the Butler Area School District to decide about how students will begin the school year.
Butler School administrators are asking that parents and guardians choose the learning pathway their child will start in by this Wednesday night. Model choices include traditional, online/cyber, Secondary Hybrid, and the recently added Secondary Flexible Traditional.
According to Superintendent Dr. Brian White, so far nearly 30% of families have chosen a learning pathway that is not traditional. The most recent guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education seems to be a much more strict mandating of mask wearing so students unable or unwilling to follow those rules should seriously consider non-traditional educational options.
The district understands that constantly changing state guidance might affect what families choose for students but there will be a temporary pause in registration changes until September 4th for elementary students and September 11th for secondary students to allow for teachers to be able to plan for how the new school year will begin.
Families who will be choosing traditional in-person school do not need to take any action as that is the default choice for Butler students.
