The opioid disaster declaration in Pennsylvania will expire at the end of the month.
Republican legislators announced late last week that they will not renew the emergency order, which has been in place since January 2018. Emergency orders must now be approved by the legislature 21 days after being signed by the governor.
GOP leaders pointed to legislation that has been enacted over the past five years to help the state respond to the opioid crisis.
Governor Wolf meanwhile argued that the epidemic has only gotten worse since the start of the COVID-19 crisis.
The emergency order will end on August 21st.
