Leo F. Burke, 75, of Karns City, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in the comfort of his home with his faithful companion, “Shooter”, at his side.
Leo was born in the Village of Kaylor, Armstrong Co. on May 16, 1945. He was the son of the late Daniel F. and Doretha A. McIntyre Burke.
Leo was of the Catholic faith. He was a 1963 graduate of East Brady High School and served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, good conversation and breakfast at area restaurants, yard sales, auctions, the company of his two labs, “Tonto and Shooter”, and most especially the company of his family.
In his earlier years, Leo had been employed in construction and retired as a machinist following more than 30 years of service at Indspec in Petrolia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, V. Marlene “Meem” Croyle Burke, whom he married in Connequenessing on June 24, 1967.
Surviving are two daughters, LeAnne McConnell and her husband, Jeff, of Bruin and Nichole Morrow and her husband, Chris, of Fenelton; five grandchildren, Kortney Bradley and her husband, Mike, Samantha Cornetti and her husband, Joe, Kaitlin Scheerbaum and her husband, Dustin, Cameron Wagner and Emma Morrow; four great grandchildren, Hanna and Ryan Cornetti, Easton and Mason Scheerbaum, and Leo was looking forward to the birth of another great grandson soon; three step great grandchildren, Kiara, Katelyn, and Koen Bradley; a brother, C. Kenneth Burke and his wife, Kate, of Karns City and a sister, Alice Jean “Sheany” Crissman and her husband, Richard, of Parker, as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Leo was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Marie Shuler.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Leo’s brother-in-law, Bishop C. Jay Croyle, a Church of God of Prophecy pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Sugarcreek Twp., Armstrong Co. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karns City Regional Ambulance Service, PO Box 21, Petrolia, PA 16050.
