Pennsylvania Department of Health officials are confirming the first known case of the new and more contagious variant of COVID-19 in the state.
According to a press release, the person who tested positive had known international exposure. Officials said the person was located in Dauphin County. The individual suffered mild symptoms that have since subsided.
Initial research shows that new variant isn’t any more lethal, but appears to be more contagious. Experts also believe that the vaccine will still be effective against this mutation.
Levine says it’s even more important for people to double down on their mitigation efforts.
