An annual program to help those in need file their taxes is underway.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, also known as VITA, officially began their program as tax season began last Tuesday.
Jean Bowen of the Center for Community Resources is the director of the program and she says other than a couple of administrators, this is entirely a volunteer run program.
“This program runs with all volunteers who give a lot of time prior to tax day. They have to train and then they have to take a test through the IRS in order to be certified so everyone who does this program is trained and certified.”
In order to qualify, individuals and families must have an income below $50,000 along with a screening process. You can call the VITA Appointment Line at 724-431-3767 or we have a link with more info at ButlerRadio.com.
