Local residents should be aware of a couple of phone scams going around in our area.
According to Butler City Police, some residents have been receiving calls soliciting funds for new equipment for the department. This person is not police and does not represent police. Butler City Police will not solicit donations in this way and recommends that anyone receiving calls like this should not share financial information.
According to Central Electric Cooperative, local state police have been made aware of residents receiving calls from someone claiming to be a representative of the CEC. The caller threatens to shut off electric service unless money is transferred by some sort of untraceable payment method. CEC will always send a paper notice about any bill and people receiving a call like that can call the CEC office to make sure that a legitimate call was made.
