Local doctors are calling on area residents to get vaccinated in order to end the pandemic.
Our newsroom spoke with Dr. Mike Fiorina of Butler Health System who said that vaccines are the key to getting back to normal.
“You might think you getting your shot is not a big deal, trust me, if we can make less people likely to carry this or transmit this, that’s how we’re going to beat it,” Fiorina said.
He also added that COVID still continues to spread in the community and that people are suffering from its effects.
“We just at the hospital last week had a 19-year-old pass away, now that’s the exception, but I’ll tell you what–it effected the caregivers quite deeply,” Fiorina said. “And those who are pushing for others to not get the shot, I would invite them to come walk the ICU with me and see what someone on a ventilator or getting ecmo looks like.”
The Regional Consortium of Chief Medical Officers, which includes Butler Health System’s Dr. David Rottinghaus, also made a plea to those who haven’t gotten vaccinated yet to do so. Plenty of appointments are now available at the community clinic at the Clearview Mall.
