Gas prices have continued to sink locally while remaining even across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, dropped by two cents over the past week to land at $3.71 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole stayed at $3.77 over the same period of time. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Sharon at $3.65, while the most expensive is $3.87 in Mercer.
The average national gas price increased by four cents over the past week to reach $3.40 which is still 12 cents less per gallon than a month ago and 28 cents less than one year ago.
Demand for gas jumped and the cost of oil has inched up as a result of the switch to summer blend gasoline which lowers emissions but is more expensive to refine.
