Gas prices decreased slightly both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, dropped by a penny to reach $3.86 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole also dropped by a penny over the same period of time to settle at $3.78. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Brookville at $3.60, while the most expensive is in Latrobe at $3.89.
The average national gas price fell by eight cents over the past week to reach $3.53 which is six cents less per gallon than a month ago and 78 cents less than one year ago.
Demand for gas decreased significantly and the cost of oil continued to drop this week over concerns that the economy could be pushed into a recession.
