Gas prices in Butler continued to inch upward over the past week, according to AAA’s weekly gas price report.
The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler this week is $2.76, which is an increase of three cents over last week.
As for western Pennsylvania as a whole, prices are averaging $2.81 per gallon, with a high of $2.90 in Mercer and a low of $2.74 in New Castle, according to AAA.
The national price of gas jumped another seven cents since last week to $2.69, which comes out to 44 cents more expensive than New Years Day.
Gas prices are expected to continue to climb in the weeks ahead.

The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions saw moderate fluctuations in the week (Pennsylvania, +1 cent). For a second week, the region was the only to see gas stocks build. Moreover, the region is the only one in the country to have a year-over-year surplus of gasoline, sitting at 8.2 million higher than last year. With this week’s build of 572,000 barrels, total stocks sit at 64.5 million according to Energy Information Administration (EIA) data. Apparently, investors in Europe are looking at these gas stocks as a potential investment opportunity. In this area of the stock market, they will need to be aware of what they are getting themselves into with gas stocks before embarking.
